State of Denial: A Personal Story of HIV/AIDS

A dangerous state of denial regarding HIV/AIDS exists in the African American community. This gripping seminar highlights the presenter's personal odyssey with this epidemic beginning in 1987 when his sister was diagnosed with the disease. Emphasis is placed on the importance of each individual taking personal responsibility for addressing this epidemic.

Plastic Surgery: Everything You Need to Know about Credit and Need to Ask
Consumer debt continues to spiral out of control, and the pursuit of having things is readily facilitated by the easy access to credit. Motivated by the need for immediate gratification, the lack of self-restraint, and poor long-term vision, undisciplined use of credit is like an economic perfect storm that will lead to personal crisis and psychological despair. Using the true story of a client who had $70,000 of unsecured credit card debt, this seminar will offer solid strategies for developing an economic plan for long-term stability.

HIV/AIDS: What You Don't Know Will Kill You
HIV/AIDS has been on the landscape of America for over 25 years, and much has been learned about this 100% preventable disease that can save lives. Educational and research efforts have experienced tremendous growth and continue to offer hope for many. Nevertheless, many people continue to engage in behaviors that place them at risk for infection. Others are confusing fact with fiction and perpetuating misinformation about the disease in communities around the nation. This seminar will shed light on the basic aspects of HIV/AIDS as a contemporary disease that can be stopped in its tracks through available educational and testing initiatives.

Fallen Dreams: A Tribute to Richard
Life is about choices, and those choices have the potential to catupult toward to success or derail us at the worst possible moment. Richard was a young man who I met on the rebound from a life that had brought him down the path of gang warfare and drug distribution. Having renounced his lifestyle, Richard had returned his life to God, relocated to a new community, and found gainful employment. Unfortunately, his life ended tragically one holiday weekend while visiting his old territory. This story is shared as a means of helping youth consider and take responsibility for the choices of their lives.

The Freshman Year Experience
Someone said that success is the result of preparation and opportunity coming together. Such is true of college success, and the freshman year, being a period of transition, can present many challenges to the retention of these students. This seminar looks at a number of strategies for improving student success in the college environment, with topics including time management, study skills, and the importance of mentoring.
